NEIL: I was not looking forward to this one as I did not like any of the example images from the book. I have some experience handling very wet paint (watercolours) so was at least able to develop a background cover with intent. But the foreground figure is just horrid, much to do with me rushing that part and not preparing the pain to the correct consistency. Bad boy! Still a worthwhile task to discover the similarities and contrasts between very wet acrylics and watercolours.
JEN: I actually really liked what was happening with this one UNTIL I realised that I was breaking the rules by the way I was painting the background, and then drawing the figure in the way I was instructed. Eww. The end result, though it doesn't please me, did teach me a new way of breaking down the subject figure even more than the original interpretation had. This is an ugly painting, but it is only an exercise, and I learned from it. Guess that's what it's about, eh.
